Leadership as Directing (Regi)
The leader's job framed as directorial/orchestral rather than performative — authoring and testing the narrative, engaging the organization, then stepping back to let the organization "play" rather than performing solo; distinguishes leader (holds the baton), consultant (plays in the section, not soloist), and organization (performs).
Also known as: regi, regissør, orkesterleder, orchestra conductor, director not soloist, strategi som regi

Strategy is best understood not as a detailed analytical plan but as an ambition or aspiration compressed into a believed, narratable direction that a leader — acting as a director/orchestra-conductor rather than a soloist — uses to make an organization's culture willing and able to execute; and because plans now have a shorter shelf life than ever, strategic success increasingly depends on combining proactive bet-making with the honesty and speed to detect weak signals and respond to the unforeseen (robustness), rather than treating proactive and reactive strategy as opposites.

- explicitThe leader's core job is to act as a 'regissør' (director) — engaging the organization, testing ideas against the board, boss, or customers — and once the organization begins to act, as an orchestra conductor who lets others play rather than performing solo.
- explicitA consultant can meaningfully shape the 'regi' of a strategy process, but the analytical work consultants typically deliver can also over-formalize a strategy until it becomes inaccessible to the organization and never gets implemented ('death by analysis').
